Tara and Mike’s wedding at the stunning UBC Botanical Gardens was a celebration of love, laughter, and a touch of whimsy. After years together, raising children, and juggling busy careers, they finally had their dream wedding, and it was nothing short of spectacular.
The Venue: UBC Botanical Gardens
The UBC Botanical Gardens served as the perfect backdrop for their big day. Known for its breathtaking beauty and tranquil surroundings, the venue offers couples an affordable yet elegant option. However, working within the gardens’ logistical challenges—such as staggered vendor deliveries and strict floral guidelines—requires precision. If you’re dreaming of a wedding in this natural paradise, a planner is essential to navigate the complexities.
Planning From Afar
Tara entrusted The Bridal Bar with partial planning, a service tailored to couples who need more than just coordination. Living in Hawaii, Tara managed much of her wedding planning remotely, making Zoom calls and meetings across time zones a regular part of the process.
The Perfect Vendors
Tara and Mike's vendor choices elevated the entire event. The catering by White Table was outstanding, serving exquisite dishes that left guests raving. Their team was a joy to work with, ensuring the day ran smoothly and the couple’s vision came to life without a hitch.
A Heartfelt Ceremony
Already legally married, the couple had a close friend officiate under a custom-designed floral arch, a beautiful and abstract creation that perfectly captured Tara’s vision. The stunning arch was later repurposed as a backdrop for the couple’s table at the reception, adding a personal touch.
Black Tie Carnival Magic
The real showstopper of the day was the theme. From carnival games like Skee-Ball and a Strike-A-Light to the whimsical “Lucky Duck” seating chart, guests were immersed in a playful yet chic atmosphere. Each black duck had a guest’s name hand-written on the bottom, creating a fun, interactive element that was a hit with everyone.
A Night to Remember
The reception was filled with joy and entertainment. The couple’s children, Audrey and Bruce hosted the evening, and they did a fantastic job! They were dressed to the nine and Bruce gave a hilarious and memorable speech. It was such a special way to make the celebration a true family affair.
Tara surprised Mike with a beautiful song, showcasing her talents as a music producer. Guests danced the night away on a custom black dance floor to live music and DJ performances. From a vintage-inspired cake adorned with cherries to the table settings, every detail was thoughtfully planned, making it a night to remember.
